Re-grind PCBN ＆ Replace PCBN inserts plan

Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) material reach a revolutionary advancement in cutting tool technology. The benefits for users are: increasing productivity, longer tool life, better surface finish, and the ability to hold closer tolerances. PCBN is used for machining a wide variety of ferrous（like Ni.Co..etc.）materials.

Typical materials machined with PCBN include:

1. Nickel and cobalt based super alloys, such as Inconel, Monel, Hastalloy, Rene, Incoloy, and Waspaoly
2. Sprayed hard facings, such as Colmonoy, Stellite, and Wallex
3. Carbon steels, such as 1045, 1050, and 1055
4. Hardened alloy steels, such as 52100

PCBN provides not only increased productivity but also cost saving over conventional tungsten carbide and ceramic tools.

For aerospace industry, its work piece of engine is classified as nickel-based alloys which nickel content is up to 50%. The conventional processing is rough machining by ceramic cutting tools, then precision machining by tungsten carbide cutters. However, the tool wear of carbide cutter is quite high, and its accuracy and surface smooth are worse than PCBN cutting tools. PCBN cutting tools can not only improve performance, but also shorten the processing time. For reducing cost and environmental re-use basis, BW proposes re-grind PCBN and replace PCBN inserts plan. And BW’s 10-axis CNC diamond grinding machinery has increased the accuracy of the R ball end which make PCBN cutting tools get better processing than carbide cutter, and also reduce customer costs and high accuracy requirement for aviation industry.
